Trip Report

Baldy — Monday, Sep. 7, 2020

Olympic Peninsula > Northern Coast

I've been meaning to hike Baldy for over a year now and I decided today was the day!

I parked at the Upper Dungeness Trailhead off of NF-2870, arrived at around 11am and it was almost totally full. I have to imagine that almost all of the cars were hikers for the Dungeness river trail because once I turned off of that onto the Lower Maynard Burn trail I only saw a grand total of 4 other hikers the whole day.

The Lower Maynard Burn trail and the decommissioned logging road it leads to before the Upper Maynard Burn trail are both very overgrown, but still easily navigable. However, it does help to have GPS while on the lookout for the place to get off of the logging road and onto the Upper Maynard Burn trail.

The views from the summit are spectacular, the false summit is a bit of a let down after 5 miles of steep hiking, but keep on going - the true summit is worth it!
