Trip Report

Mount Spokane State Park - Quartz Mountain — Monday, Aug. 10, 2020

Eastern Washington > Spokane Area/Coeur d'Alene

Turning right off the paved road is where the WTA pin drops- this is for a lower parking lot (big gravel area to the left of a bathroom), keep going up the hill past the bathroom to reach the main parking lot where the trails start (it's on the right side of the gravel toad). There are several trails that mostly all lead to the lookout, but the easiest route is to start on the Mountain View trail, then follow the road once you reach the first point where all the trails converge again. Or just follow the gravel road from which you turned to reach the parking lot, all the way to the top. Otherwise your hike may turn out to be 7 miles round trip like ours did.

The gravel road has a gate in front of it after the first section on the Mountain View trail, so it's an easy hike on a wide path. Not many views until you reach the top, but they are pretty great from the lookout- lot of reward for pretty minimal effort. The trail is loose rock, but I would've been able to run down it if the kids hadn't been in tow. It was a hot day in the valley, but the trail is shaded most of the way so we never got overheated.
