North Cascades > Mount Baker Area
Washout in the road

The washout is worse than last year. If you look at the photo, the far circle is where the bottom of my car (Element) hit the road -- there's a big dip in the road and my front left tire just sank right into it -- and the near circle is where I got stuck backing up. I was able to get out, but it was harrowing for a few minutes. I definitely do not recommend trying to cross unless you're very confident in the clearance and capability of your car. I ended up parking on the lower side and hiking up the road to the trailhead (I estimate about 3/4m).

Trail is in good shape, although several blow downs -- none difficult to cross.

The deep snow starts around the stream crossing, which is where I turned back. The stream is wide and has taken over part of the trail at the moment, so waterproof boots would be good.
