Trip Report

Cedar Falls Snowshoe — Saturday, Mar. 7, 2020

North Cascades > North Cascades Highway - Hwy 20

We drove until we hit the unplowed road and parked at the start of the parked snowmobiles. As the description states, we spent the first 2 miles or so on the unplowed road, not using our snowshoes for this part on the way up but soon realized how helpful they would have been. We turned left to continue up the road, putting snowshoes on at this point, and met the trail head after 2.1 miles of hiking.

Views were beautiful the whole way, with the mountains peeking out from behind the trees. The trail itself was a gradual incline with a clear path, even without miles markers. In spots where the trail had lots of sun, the snow was less compacted and made walking more challenging as the snow pack was soft beneath our snowshoes so we were sinking a bit. But it was mostly smooth sailing to the falls!

Having snowshoes on this trail was definitely helpful, but probably not required. They allowed us to move faster than we would have without them, especially on the way down. Highly recommend this snowshoe!
