A lovely overnight at the cozy and quiet yurt. Very clean. Even the outhouse is spotless. It's the only latrine that doesn't smell bad. In fact, it actually smells good. The snow is almost gone. Just a few spots to play in, but easy to walk around. Trillium and Skunk Cabbage are blooming.

We enjoyed a cool fall hike on our first trip out to the yurt. MTTA has made this a wonderful place! So relaxing to have a dry beautiful place for lunch on a damp day.
We started from the lower trailhead. Our phone app recorded 13.75 mi rt, 2132 gain. The turn on to the lower yurt trail is about 2 miles up the main road. This trail starts out as a steep single track, a little adventurous as the trail climbs and dips on the hillside. There's a steep hill down to a foot bridge over a creek. After that the old road begins to appear gradually getting wider and smoother coming to a fir needle cushioned stretch. Then the lower yurt trail comes out onto the active logging roads about 3 miles from the yurt.
Somehow we made it up and back in six hours including a luxurious lunch break. Also the phone app recorded 7+ miles up and 6.7 miles down. Going down was so fast and easy we are convinced we discovered and traveled through a slug hole. Beam me down Scottie!
Still very dry and the fire ban is on for Lewis County. There is water at the huts and a small creek on the way to High Hut. As of last week the Yurt had 50 gallons, High Hut over 200 gallons, and Snow Bowl 100 gallons of water for boiling/treating.
Be cautious of logging trucks from the turnoff all the way up to the huts. They typically work until around 2pm, but may be later. Keep your radio off and listen for them coming down the road. Great views!!
