Just a follow-up to Mule Deer's Trip Report. The Overlook access road was groomed for XC skiing this morning, and WSDOT has plowed a turnout that can park about 6 cars. This morning's conditions were very good, given that it was raining on the snow yesterday afternoon.
The trail from the summer parking lot to the overlook varies between ice, packed snow, with some afternoon postholing.
The views were great in the near winter conditions.
Not sure how much longer SR 20 over Washington Pass will remain open this fall. East of the pass, three small avalanches have reached the road above the hairpin.

In case you were wondering. Yup snow in the N Cascades and larch are done. We were staying at the NCI and just drove up in the morning to see snow, and we saw it. FYI Blue Lake, Maple Pass and Cutthroat Pass are totally covered, we could see from the road, so be advised, you need snow smarts to do these hikes now.

I don't see how you could not stop at this overlook any time you drive past on Highway 20. The views are simply amazing. But unfortunately, according to a sign posted, the parking lot will be closed for paving starting August 18. No word on when it will open again.

After spending a great day in the mountains, this is ideal for a great leg stretcher with iconic views of the Liberty Bell and Kangaroo Pass.
We also stopped in Sedro-Woolley for some great BBQ at Double Barrel BBQ.
What a great Saturday despite the crowds on the more popular trails.
