This was my first time on the new loop trail to Striped Peak, and it did not disappoint. We enjoyed fine views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca, Vancouver Island and Sakt Creek Recreation Area along the way and at the peak. We also foraged red huckleberries, salmonberries, wild strawberries and blackberries. Yum!

We took the trail clockwise, which meant that we didn’t reach the summit until we were three-quarters through the hike. The way trended uphill, but nothing too steep. WTA’s hike mileage of 7.5 seems long. The map posted at the trailhead shows it to be closer to 6 miles, and that is what it felt like.

An unexpected highlight was the WWII bunker. There was a warren of corridors and rooms — all filed with graffiti — to explore with a flashlight. In one room, we found bats. Please be careful not to disturb them!

I definitely recommend this hike to anyone camping at Salt Creek or those who want to find a rewarding hike away from park crowds. It was a summer Saturday, and we only saw three other groups. We had the summit to ourselves for an hour.

Did a beautiful hike on Striped Peak today! Wildflowers are in bloom, which made for pretty scenery. There are also benches up top, which we had all to ourselves.

Getting there: Road was extremely easy to navigate. No traffic, snow, or obstacles.

Parking: Small lot at trailhead, could hold about ~20 cars. More spaces available at the site. Arrived to trailhead at 8:30am, only one other car in the lot.

Obstacles: Encountered 3 fallen trees, nothing major.

It was a rainy day on the Striped Peak Loop trail. Thank you to the previous trip reporter who inspired me to hit this trail! There are porta potties just down the road in front of the basketball court. They were in good condition. It drizzled most of the time with a thick layer of fog that gave great mood and atmosphere but not so great faraway views. I went clockwise, which might be more of a spread out ascent, but when it's wet, the rocks and roots are very slippery. I took the Cove spur trail down to the water. Once you go down all that you had just climbed up on the main trail, you gotta make your way through awkward maneuvering to get to the water. It's not going to be for everyone and it's not possible during high tide I have to imagine. That was my favorite part. The briny smell of the ocean mixed with mossy splendor for the rest of the hike was wonderful. I got my fill and headed back up. Then you're on a mossy forest trek for a while. I had long stretches of solitude and every hiker/runner I encountered joked about having no views on such a view-tastic type of hike. A runner and I both headed up to the peak (him well before me) hoping to get a bit of clearing up there. The trek up was worth it and not too far from the main trail. With the cove spur and peak added to my overall hike, my numbers were 7.25 miles and 1654 ft elevation gain. It was a great way to spend my hiking Sunday.

Beware of: trail conditions

Getting there: no issues - standard vehicles are find and there is plenty of parking.

Bathroom: I do wish there was a vault toilet or portapotti by the trailhead but there are some bathrooms closer to the day use area.

Trail was in amazing shape! Thank you so much WTA. Only two felled trees but they were small and easy to navigate. Had almost the whole trail to ourselves as we did not go down to the cove. Signage was pretty easy to navigate. As other mentioned before there are parts of the trail that are pretty exposed so sunscreen would be good.

We had amazing views!

A great trail system if you don't want to travel too far from either P.A. or Sequim. Probably best done in the shoulder seasons, when otherwise the camping/tourist crowds will be out and about. Windy at the top, but the leeward bench provides a sheltered perch to enjoy the view, the wildflowers, and refreshments. Trail was dry the whole way for us on the Bunker Hill loop.
