Took an Uber to our local state park this morning and set off towards Lost Lake. The trail network here is awesome, lots of options, and includes many beautiful, huge, legacy forest trees--Doug fir and cedars. Lots of maples, too. And cool rock formations throughout the park, including along the North Lost Lake portion of our route.
We made a sort of V-shaped hiking route in order to get some hills and miles in today, as well as hike back towards a closer, cheaper Uber ride back home. After leaving the South Lost Lake lot, we headed up Fragrance Lake Road, took the cut-off towards Lost Lake (on the South Lost Lake trail), then picked up the North Lost Lake trail and followed that to Arroyo, where we caught our ride home. We saw four people total, two towards the very end of the hike. It was a peaceful, lovely day in the woods. RT 8.7 miles.
Mosquitoes were sort of lazily hanging out when we stopped for lunch, but only a couple bites. Great hike for quietude, no crowds, big trees, and good fitness maintenance. Looking forward to our Rainier/Tahoma camping trip in a few weeks. Jonesing for The Goddess! Happy hiking, All :-)

Beautiful way to extend the Fragrance Lake hike and make a loop of it. Highlights included sword ferns for dayssssss, some ripe salmon berries for snacking along the way and shade almost the whole length. Nothing muddy and trail in very good condition throughout. Recommend starting with the road direction for what feels like a more gradual climb than the switchbacks. AllTrails clocked us at 6.5 miles and 1,100 ft gain.
Started at the Lost Lake parking lot around 10:30 with plenty of parking still available and bathrooms in good condition and stocked.
Followed the Fragrance Lake road (also the Lost Lake South Trail) for about 2.2 miles, passed by a couple of mountain bikers and a few hiking groups coming down and stopped to admire a waterfall just off-trail, before intersecting with the Fragrance Lake trail where we turned right to go counter clockwise around the lake.
The lake was beautiful with multiple nice spots to sit and look at the water. We had brought our suits but it was only about 60 and a light breeze made it just too cool to brave a dip. (Though it was tempting and the water felt decent!) Nice little path around the lake and the trail follows a cool rock wall on the east side.
From the lake, took the Fragrance Lake trail back down the switchbacks, stopping to rest the knees as needed. Again, not too many people on trail for a holiday midday. Glad we took the spur up to the overlook — beautiful view and had the bench to ourselves for a half hour or so.
When the trail intersected with the Interurban, we took that back to our car. Beautiful little jaunt and would like to come back for a swim sometime.

Hiked Rock Trail down to Lost Lake and Lost Lake Falls. Trailhead was clear and well maintained. Road up was a little rough but easy to pass. Rock Trail was steep but in good condition, followed it down to Lost Lake Trail and looped around the lake to the falls. A little muddy around the lake but easy enough to cross. Five miles round trip there and back, about 1000 feet of elevation gain, all of it on the way back up from the lake.

We took the grand tour loop of Larrabee SP. The cloudy weather was perfect for enjoying the beautiful forest.
We started up the Fragrance Lake trail. There are several big old fire scarred Doug Fir on the way up. It is a rare example of low elevation old growth near Puget Sound. There's evidence of "high grading" by long ago loggers. This was back in the days when they would go in and just take the choice trees and leave most of the rest.
The loop around Fragrance Lake is a real pleasure. There's some large sandstone cliffs on the west side of the lake that are interesting to see.
The Double Black Diamond up to the rock trail is more of a mountain bike route than a hiking trail but it is good exercise.
The Rock Trail in my opinion is the highlight of the hike. It was beautifully built by WTA adjacent to some very interesting sandstone cliffs. The trail is a real engineering feat and required many steps.
The return walk on the South Lost Lake Trail had an unexpectedly nice old forest much of the way.
Our intentions were to take the Double Down trail back but it is only open to bikes. Instead we took the Fragrance Lake Road trail (gated gravel road). There's a nice waterfall along the way.
10.2 mile loop, 2300 ft
We had an excellent pizza lunch at the Terramar Brewstillery in the very quaint town of Edision. I highly recommend it. We also did a little bird watching in the area. We did not have the good fortune of Bob and Barb from a few days ago but we did see several Bald Eagles, a Short Earred Owl and hundreds of Trumpeter Swans (Rawlings Rd).

Ranger and I went to check out Fragrance Lake & Lost Lake for the first time! I’d heard about Fragrance lake a few time, but hadn’t made it out there until today; it was great exploring some of the surrounding trails! The trail up to Fragrance lake was well maintained and super easy to follow. We circled the lake counterclockwise and admired the Douglas Squires and Birds singing in the trees! After circumnavigating Fragrance Lake, we cut up to the old road and took a right. We walked this road just for a couple hundred feet, then hung a Left up the hill to join the steep biking trail up the ridge. This trail was Super Steep and had one small section where the hikers were required to stay straight up the hill while the bike trail took a side trail. I presume to prevent collisions between bikers and hikers.
At the trail junction, the Pup-Pup and I took a Right and made our way down All The Stairs of Rock Trail. Very cool bit of trail along the rock cliffy area with lots of cool holes carved out of the rock : ) We continued down the trail and took a Left on South Lost Lake Trail. We followed this to the North end of Lost Lake and took a Right at that junction and followed the mini ridge and lake shore along the East side of Lost Lake. I really enjoyed this piece of trail with its great lake views and ridge walk feel. There was a spot about half way along the lake at the outflow stream where you can get right now next to the lake. We stopped here for a min for snacks and water break.
Thus fortified, we pressed on. This trail continued past the South end of Lost lake to another trail junction and took a Right. This 0.7mile bit of trail headed UP to join an old road about 700ft above Lost Lake. This trail was muddy and very direct. No switchbacks lol. There was a small lookout opportunity here near Chuckanut Mountain-South Peak. We snaped a pic and continued on. We followed this old road until it joined up with South Lost Lake Trail again and took a Left.
Once back to the main trail area, we followed the main trail down from Fragrance Lake the was we had come in. Per Gaia 8.4miles and 3,000’ gain.
