Well the sun came out when I was headed home from the beach, so I decided to make the most of my trip to the peninsula. The Sol Duc Valley Road is paved all the way to the end and there are a number of hiking trails along the way.  There is a huge parking lot for this trail. I can’t imagine what the trail would be like if it was full!

The trail is beautiful. Huge trees and lush spring greens. There’s a nice waterfall half way to THE FALLS. Benches and logs along the way which is nice if you’re taking someone who’s not used to walking in the woods.
Campground and cabins at the hot springs resort look good.

BIG trees and beautiful spring greens. There’s a nice waterfall half way to the falls. Very little elevation and benches along the way if you’re with someone who’s not used to hiking.
Im glad to have checked out this new-to-me trail. Cabins and campground look pretty sweet!

Took a quick hike on this short trail to the falls. Scouting the area parking in preparation for hiking the basin loop this summer.

One rotten tree down on the trail but easily walked over/past.  Very beautiful greenery.  Flower stems/plants only just starting to emerge out of the ground moss.

The guy who fell into the ravine at the falls last week was very lucky.  Do yourself, bystanders, and rescue personnel a favor: stay on the trail.

The start of this trailhead feels like the entrance to someplace magical, and it really is! The trail is in great condition and easy to follow among old-growth giants, layers of ferns and cedars, beautiful creeks, and roaring waterfalls. There was some snow but none on the trail, just a few muddy spots. The spring weather of showers, sunshine, and snow flurries gave the woods all sorts of personality. Out and back took us about two hours but we took our sweet time and stopped for many photos. You can explore the other trails around the falls area past the bridge for more views of the river and woods. Huge payoff in beautiful sights for the short distance hiked.
