Point Robinson Park is a short ferry ride and drive from West Seattle via the Fauntleroy / Vashon route. It's a lovely stretch of coast to explore with lots of shells and wildlife. The lighthouse wasn't open, but it did make for a quaint view.

We spotted a bald eagle and lots of washed-up jellies. We also found what I think is a cephalopod arm. But I'm unsure if it's from a giant red octopus or Humboldt squid or something else. I'd love to hear your opinion or expertise in the comments section.

The parking lot has a few porta potties that were in just ok conditions. Just be sure to leave the park before the gate is closed and locked.

Finally, have you met my friend Oscar? He's the Bird King and he's made from reclaimed materials. You can learn more about him and the other trolls at www.nwtrolls.org

Since visiting Pt. Robinson several years ago, the addition of Oscar the Bird King Troll by Thomas Dambo has been on our bucket list.

Ferry Ride: From Point Defiance in Tacoma take the Vashon ferry. Our vehicle with 4 occupants and 2 dogs was $40 round trip for this family outing. The ride across the narrows was about 10 minutes total.

Drive: Once you get to Vashon, the drive was about another 20 minutes.

Parking: Free but limited.

Trip: This is a great trip for the family. The Oscar the Bird King troll is very accessible for all abilities. We then took a short slippery trail down to Point Robinson Lighthouse with views of Normandy Park across the Salish Sea.

It was our daughter-in-laws first trip on a ferry so was pretty excited about how it all worked.

Plan on it taking up most of your day.

.60 mile trail loop.

Quick walk on Vashon to check out the park. We walked the short path to the shoreline and lighthouse. Unfortunately, there were limited views today because of the clouds, but the beach was still lovely. We headed back and stopped at the troll - the second one we’ve been to. It really is a magnificent work of art. Try walking in front of him - his eyes will follow you. Total distance was under half a mile with a bit of elevation loss going down to the beach. However, there are more trails that circle the park if you’d like some extra mileage.

The attraction here is the troll ("Oscar the Bird King"), one of about five Thomas Dambo troll sculptures in the Puget Sound area. The other attraction, of course, is the lighthouse. On a clear day, like we had, the views across the Sound are stunning. The trails are short. This is a great place to bring children for the troll and the sandy beach.
