There are a number of trails (and distances) you can tackle from the Jakles Lagoon parking area. I started with the Mount Finlayson Trail and connected with the Third Lagoon Trail and then Jakles Lagoon. It was a beautiful hike, even in winter. At a few points you can see both the Strait of Juan de Fuca and Griffin Bay. You can also see the Cattle Point Lighthouse from the trail - beautiful! Highly recommend this relaxing hike through some stunning landscapes. Map and trail markers are fantastic.

This hike is a loop, one side goes past Jakle’s lagoon and through the forested area, at the end there is a really steep climb but don’t worry it is short and beautiful at the top. You can look out at cattle point and the San Juan light house. On the way back the trail follows the road towards the shore and the forest line. The deer are everywhere along here. We saw 5 different deer along this way back. Beautiful views of the coastline the whole way.
Pretty hike with a lot of variety, plus many nearby activities that make it worth the ferry ride out to see.
Parking lot is large enough but on the small side, we arrived around 10:45 and it was almost full, could fit maybe 15-18 cars. There are no facilities at the trailhead.
We took the narrow trail up out of the parking lot (not the one with the gate). This leads right up to the Mount Finlayson summit and gorgeous views of the strait and Olympics. The fields are lush with flowers and colorful grass, and we saw many ladybugs flitting around. The first half of the hike is exposed to the wind and sun, but after rounding the ridge, it drops down into the forest. The mosquitoes and gnats were pesky in here and while I didn't get bit, one of my kids and my husband got chewed up, so I'd recommend some repellent. We took the trails leading to Third Lagoon but bypassed the lagoon itself.
The trail has many intersections but most are signed well enough. There were many people out, but it wasn't crowded at all. The trailhead has a map as well.
Well worth the trip, I wish we'd had more time to see the other trails nearby.
