The hike here was beautiful! All three falls are beautiful but the middle especially the upper middle are stunning. Found a few thimbleberries and blackberries along the way. Total mileage was about 5.5 after exploring all the falls. Definitely come prepared with good footwear as the rocks are slick. Be ready to take a dip in the rock pools you won’t regret it!

The hike was really fun and was more moderate than easy for my group. There were a few slick areas and two logs that you have to climb over, but it was not bad at all. The three different waterfalls were fairly easy to get to, with the lower falls being the most difficult then upper, and then middle falls being the easiest. The signage needs to be redone at one spot but other than that the trail was easy to follow, I definitely recommended using AllTrails or some other map to help navigate. The waterfalls were worth every step, I will be going back!

Second time doing this hike! Such a great hike to do, not too bad but you definitely get a workout. I would say milage is inaccurate, after walking around the falls and exploring a bit we totaled 6 miles.

The third falls was a bit tricky, this was our first time making it completely to the third falls. The instructions for the third falls was a bit confusing, so once you start down where the third falls should be, stay to the right. This is the trickiest part of the trail as its the most overgrown, narrow, and most maneuvers. We made it just fine, but could be a problem for those with some mobility issues. If you’re lucky and the runoff isn’t too high, you should be able to hop across some rock to make it to the base of the third falls.

Lovely trail, and so close to town. The tempting thimbleberries are coming on, the falls are gorgeous, and this was a very manageable destination to kill a few hours and avoid sitting in traffic. Only obstacles my son and I encountered were a log to step over on the way to the middle falls, and some salmonberry and thimbleberry reaching their branches out into the trail. They may need to be clipped at some point. The trail could also use some maintenance, as there were some collapsed railings and eroded steps in places especially at the base of the lower falls.

We picked up the trail from the Smallwood Park parking lot, and it was much easier to follow than I expected. The trail is very well signed. Once on the trail (almost) every turn is marked. (Of course a map is still an essential, Gaia worked well for this one.) We just visited the lower and middle falls before turning around to head home.

My eight-year-old son had been bugging me about going to NW Trek again since well before school got out, so I had made him a deal. We'd do NW Trek, and then go for a hike instead of sit in traffic. Total win-win. We live north of Seattle, finished our hike around 7pm, and it was smooth sailing all the way home.

Consider bringing a trash bag. We found more than I could carry out in the little bag I had.

Easy Father’s Day hike. One obstacle to report on the mid falls trail. Tree down approximately 18” in diameter, just before the trail descends to the falls.
