Lovely, easy trail. We were staying the night at the Lake Chelan State Park campground, and decided to take a stroll around 6:30 pm. Lucky for us, the clouds broke, and we got some beautiful golden hour sunlight on the blooming balsamroot and the hills around the lake. The whole loop took us less than an hour, and we had it completely to ourselves.

We hiked the Bitterbrush Loop of the Little Bear Trail on a cool, sunny morning. We startled an immature osprey, which flew into a snag and glowered at us. Later, we saw two mule does which seemed semi-tame since they just looked at us, then went back to feeding. The arrowleaf balsamroot was blooming in the sunny areas but still in bud in the forest. Saskatoon (Service berry) veiled the forest in white. I used the Picture This app to ID dark throat shooting stars, American vetch, hillside woodland star, spring beauty (2 varieties), mountain phlox, ballhead waterless, and desert hyacinth. Such a glorious walk, with the sun shining on the golden heads of the balsamroot!
FYI, last night we saw at least 10 marmots enjoying the warm rocks by the lake at Lake Chelan SP.
