Excellent choice for small kids. Lots of cool things to explore. Trail is well maintained up to the lake, although there were a few fallen trees to climb over. Once at the lake, the trail goes off in both directions, and it’s not long before the trail gets overgrown and rough. We turned back after .25 mile. Very beautiful and serene. Not crowded at all for a holiday weekend.
We all needed to stretch out legs a bit before the drive home, and this short hike did the job. Pretty throughout, quiet, and accessible, if you are in the area, it's worth exploring. Only downside is that the forest canopy limits the views beyond the immediate area... but perhaps its an opportunity to enjoy what is at hand instead of what lays ahead?
Very easy for kids, our elderly dog (who loved the spa mud treatment). A few trees are across the trail but were not significant barriers.

Really enjoyed this sweet little trail. The dirt road has some giant craters but any car can make it. NW Forest Pass required and vault toilet at the TH.
5 or 6 trees across the trail but they were easy to hop over or under (if you’re a pug). We saw a number of families at the lake. Some fishing, others swimming. We had lunch and had some fun splashing around with the little fish by the shore.
6 hikers, 12 thumbs up.
