Tucked away in the suburban blandscape of Shoreline is forested Hamlin Park, located on 15 Ave NE and 160th Street. We spent an hour or two walking around on the park's numerous trails. Deep in the heart of the park's woods, for a few moments at least, we could imagine we were deep in the heart of the Cascades. Fresh gravel and treadwork on the trails shows that the City Of Shoreline is taking a renewed interest in their mini backyard wilderness. A little ravine cuts through the park, the course of the former Hamlin Creek, now buried underground. There is some thought of daylighting the creek and restoring its natural course. To extend our walk we headed south through the sports fields behind a middle school and high school complex to South Woods Park, another forested tract with many trails. We walked back to Hamlin through the office park to the west, a mix of funky old wood buildings and newer structures. A fence separates the office park from Hamlin Park, but we found a strategically-placed hole in the fence that led us directly to Hamlin's main parking lot.
