Gorge Lake Overlook — Aug. 31, 2020

North Cascades > North Cascades Highway - Hwy 20

Did a photo drive along Highway 20 and this was one of our first stops inside the park. Notably, it has a bathroom at the trailhead if you need it. Otherwise, on a Monday at lunch time, there were a few other groups on the paved half of the trail but none of the other groups joined us on the unpaved portion to complete the loop. There are blueberries growing along the unpaved portion but they weren’t ripe yet.

I took a two-wheeled adventure to the Ross Dam overlook stopping at the Gorg Overlook and then onto Diablo Lake Overlook.

Being that it was a Saturday, there were many cars on the road, many people walking the sides of the roads at popular turn off spots and many people at the Ross Dam.

Not only was it a blazing 93 degrees, but the sun was relentless. I'd advise to bring plenty of sunscreen and water if you're planning on venturing out this far into the wilderness. There are plenty of areas to stop for bathroom breaks, to stretch your legs and the views are absolutely gorgeous.

Did a stopover for a walk to the Gorge Lake Overlook. Indeed, as is well-described by WTA: there are "astonishing views of nature’s beauty as well as humanity's technological “improvements .. ".

It was drizzling when Swee and me did the walk. And the rain and fog made the views mystical :)  We had the Overlook to ourselves for ~10 mins until our return to the parking .. a few vehicles and visitors started to stream in ..

Cheers Everyone!

Only 0.5 miles paved nice trail and 0.5 miles unpaved trail to form a circle. Nice views!

The second hike today was very short. The trail out to the overlook is  blacktop so wheelchairs can make it out there but you can go beyond that and head down a gravel trail that winds around back to the parking lot. This portion of the trail is not for wheelchairs. The overlook gives you a nice view of Gorge Lake and a blocked view of the dam but still worth checking out if doing The Cascade Loop Highway. After finishing the hike head across the street onto the metal bridge to checkout the magnificent Gorge Creek Waterfall. Surprisingly enough it wasn't that crowed for a Memorial Day Weekend. Lots of car on the road to include a lot of travel trailers but traffic was till moving up to Sedro Wool where it got bad but still I got through pretty quick. Checkout the video of this hike or other hikes I have done on my VIMEO Channel at https://vimeo.com/mikemorrison

As Always get out and see this beautiful state and enjoy your hiking!!

Take Care,

Mike
