There is one fallen tree over the path, and is difficult to tell the trail actually goes straight there vs turning left. We went left and soon found we were off trail. Lovely hike though.

Found the road with little problem, I think a bit farther than the 8 miles stated. However on same road as south skokomish river trail. The 600 road is in good shape and there doing road work on it,but at this time their are "drainage" trenches cut across road in several places car with low clearance may have issues. Trail is in good condition , bugs not a problem, however the spider webs across the trail got to be a bit much, that should give you a good idea of how often this trail has been used. Raven, my 3 month old pup, and I only went about 2 1/2 miles , got a little bit later start than was hoping and did not beat the heat. Plenty of water sources on and just off trail, some where getting a little low.

Good luck finding it with these directions. You will not find FR2361 8 miles down FR23. I never did locate FR 2361.

I didn't get to the trailhead. The driving directions on the site are not good at all. Lessons learned - don't do google maps as the last bit of the road - last 2 miles to be exact - approaching from the SE to the NW is 100% impassable to foot or vehicle traffic. Try the NF2222 road instead - not that I got to the trailhead. However, hiking that last bit of road did lead to a majestic ridge meadow that would make an excellent camping spot.

It was a perfect Pacific NW day -- fog, mist, occasional sun breaks. Plenty of berries to munch on and birds singing. Only saw two other people the whole day, which was lovely. A couple of the downed logs were a fun challenge the first time over and/or under 'em -- and a strenuous one the second time on the way back. the bugs were non-existent until we hot Satsop Lake, and then they were obnoxious. Would not recommend hiking with children or folks just starting their hiking season. While the guide book called it a level 3, I'd notch it up a peg. I've been told Mt. Ellinor is a level 4, but I've found that to be an easier hike. It was delightful to be in the coolness of tall trees and damp underbrush, especially after our weeks of hot, dry weather. Altogether, a beautiful way to spend a Sunday.
