The road to the upper trailhead is still blocked by downed trees. Work is being done as we were able to drive 0.5 ml up it and park on side of road. This takes you past the steepest part and estimated at 1.5-2 mls road walk to trailhead. There are still about 25 trees across the road. Easy to get around on foot and did a bit of pruning on our way up. Nice to see 2 very large bear scat on the walk up and trees struck by lightning (see pics). Trail was in great condition one tree to easily climb over and did a bit of trail clearing of the downed branches. Just below the saddle we hit a large snow field and decided this was a good turn around spot as our turn around time was approaching. Prior to this we passed several smaller fields which are starting to melt out.  Saw many flowers and more coming marsh marigold, calypso orchids, avalanche lilies, false lily of the valley, trillium, and more. Also saw several patches of slime mold!

Could not get to trail as there were many trees over the road way. We parked on the side and hiked for a ways, and it sure does seem promising, but without a chainsaw and a lot of patience, you're not getting to the trail via vehicle.

I hiked the Church Creek trail on September 16, 2021.  I counted 28 drainage ditches on the road to the trailhead.  This is not a problem for folks with a high clearance vehicle.  Others will have to take caution not to bottom out as they cross over the drainage ditches.  I would not drive a Prius or other low to the ground vehicle down this road.  The trail is in great shape and I enjoyed picking blueberries along the last mile as I approached the lake.  There are some impressive trees along the trail as well.  I only saw one other hiker picking berries that came in from the west end of the trail.  You do pass through significant foliage/shrubs so wearing long pants that dry quickly is a good idea. As others have mentioned roads leading to the trail will be gated October 1st so you have two weeks left to enjoy the trail.

This is a lovely, rugged and rarely visited trail.  We had the entire trail to ourselves.  At the top, the panoramic views are gorgeous.

The trail is rocky and has large roots in many areas.  There is vegetation that needs brushing, especially in the upper areas before the trail begins descending again.

The road getting there does require a higher clearance vehicle.  My Subaru Outback made it with no problems.

As the gate will be closed on October 1, it is a great time to go and enjoy a hike here.
