Trail from Icicle Ridge down to where the trail crosses Chatter Creek is in poor condition. The trail is over grown in many places making it difficult for frame packs. The tread from the pass down to the upper Chatter Cr. valley is filled with rocks and has several wash outs. From the cossing to the trailhead, the trail is in good condition and was logged out. This trail appears not to have been maintained from the creek crossing to the pass in many years, as the alder and vine maple growing in the trail are quite large.

Hiked Chatter Creek Trail to Ladies Pass on 7/19/98. Trail was unobstructed (except for 1 tree about 3/4 mile from trail head - no problem for hikers). Trail was slightly overgrown in portions below Grindstone Mtn. No snow from trailhead to Grindstone Mtn. After Grindstone there are a few patches, but nothing requiring ice axes. Mosquitoes are plentiful and hungry all the way. No letup from them no matter how high you get. Bring deet! Also had problems with mice chewing through my tent.
