Came after work to try and see some northern lights and ended up seeing a little bit. Saw some deer but headed back down after I heard about 4-5 coyotes howling and they sounded pretty close. Round trip 2.7 miles and 760 feet elevation. Only one on the trail tonight other than some deer and some coyotes close by.

Nicely maintained trail with lots of options and maps. Hiked with three kids, great views from the top.

This is a great hike - the balsamroot are looking good though not quite peaking - amazing view!

When you get to the loop around the top of Castlerock, I’d recommend going left, clockwise as the other way that I went was a bit loose, scramble and exposed at the back.

This was my first hike on Castle rock and it was a blast. I loved every part of it. If you have not hated in a long time, it is a good hike to start with. Very lovely views. It is also kid friendly.
