Out and back from Longmire to Narada Falls. Some snow on the trail after Madcap Falls but then the last portion to Narada Falls was snow free. All the falls were roaring and the mountain even made an appearance in the morning before afternoon clouds partially blocked the view. Narada Falls even had a little rainbow at the bottom just like in the viewpoint sign picture!

The Rampart Ridge loop (Rampart Ridge plus Wonderland Trail back to Longmire) is in good shape. A few snow patches on the flattish stretch between the Rampart Ridge overlook (of Longmire) and the Wonderland, but nothing at all difficult to cross (the trail is always easily visible on the other side); snow coverage less than 5% on this section. Essentially no snow on the route elsewhere. We did investigate the Wonderland from the Rampart Ridge / Wonderland junction down toward Kautz Creek. Little snow for the first 100 yards, then increasing amounts, with the "flat" at 3650' almost 100% covered. Probably best not to attempt to go all the way to Kautz Creek unless you know the trail (or have a good sense of how trail builders route trails). Carter Falls Trail (the Wonderland east from Cougar Rock to the Falls) is in excellent shape, with no snow or other problems.

Fun short hike with Carter Falls in view quickly. Log bridge across the Nisqually River is stable and has one rail to hold onto. Rocky entry from trail head, but the trail is well marked with sand pathway flanked by large rocks on both sides. Series of gradual elevation gains mixed in with some flats. At the top of the trail ran into a little bit of snow, but was only about 4 inches deep - easy to manage, but slippery as the snow was melting. Good trail for older kids who can watch out for themselves. Wouldn't recommend for smaller children, sheer drop off points all along the trail to the falls below with no barriers. Great hour long hike and most of the trail is covered with trees above so even in rain - you stay mostly dry.

We started at the small parking area on the right up about 2 miles from Longmire and just before Cougar Rock Camp Ground road. It's 1.1 miles to Carter Falls from here and 2.7 miles to Narada Falls. You quickly reach the sturdy footbridge across the Nisqually. The trail is easy to follow and in good shape. There are small patches of snow as you get close to Carter Falls. The 700 feet to Madcap Falls has a bit more snow but is worth it. After that there is even more snow, it's melting fast and had us post holing so we decided not to got farther.

Snow shoes from long mire to Carter falls rt6 miles. The roared was closed up to paradise, lots of snow fall today and windy. There were a lot of people on this hike. Snow shoes not needed until river crossing, and the bridge is very icy.
