Susie and I hiked the boundary trail from near Council Bluff(and lake) The trailhead signs have been stolen, so found the trail intersecting the road and parked nearby (never did find the trailhead described in 102 hikes...) Lovely forest walk, some flowers still blooming. Unique huge trees totally devoid of bark...a silver ghost in the woods. This trail's been beat up by motorcycles too and there are ruts and mudholes to deal with. But, it's a lovely forest and there's lots to look at. Walked about 4 miles to Summit Prairae and climbed up to the old lookout site. The views are great and it's worth the walk in. About 8 1/2 or 9 miles round trip. Not much gain but we both had relatively new boots and sore feet.

After a 3hr drive I arrived at the Norway Pass TH at 10am to find only 3 cars in the lot. It was already a hot sunny day, but no bugs for a change. The <10% graded trail wanders all over the place to get to Norway Pass and beyond. There are big views but very little shade in the blast zone. A couple of minor snowfields on the trail just below Mt Margaret. Four mountain bikers arrived on the summit as I left. One crashed and burned big-time trying to get across the steeper snowfield. Still some running water but none in the first hot 4 miles. The more western half of the lakes basin loop trail has a TRAIL CLOSED sign at its start in the pass NE of Mt Margaret - why'

Boundary Trail#1 is open from the Hummocks Trail to the Truman Trail. Beyond that point there is plenty of snow covering the trail into the backcountry. Norway Pass Trailhead on road 26 is open, but both directions on the Boundary are still snow covered.
