Blackbird Island is the perfect casual walk to get away from the busyness of downtown Leavenworth. It was easy to get to, just head south from the center of town. There is a sign even, pointing you to it. Once you are on the island, the path is all dirt. Plenty of beautiful nature and views of the river. Also, it was pretty busy, but not horribly so. A just right walk. We encountered someone using a mobility chair, and she seemed to be having no trouble with the bridges and occasional ruts/bumps on the path. Nature signs were educating and helpful.

Leavenworth is always a worthy destination in the winter months. The snow capped mountains, dicey conditions on Stevens Pass and hoards of people in town- it still brings the Christmas feeling.
Getting over the pass, (and back) wasn't too bad. Traffic was light and the plows were out doing their thing. In town, there wasn't any snow but a cup of hot coffee or hot cocoa really hit the spot after some window shopping because the temperatures didn't get much over freezing.
Blackbird Island was on the crowded side. Many dogs, families and children. A wonderful Friday in Leavenworth.
Trail conditions were on the muddy side with some snow patches on the bridge but not much else of concern.
A word of caution- the large free parking lots, and (even the pay to park lots) are not manned. Meaning, it's park at your own risk and a lot of people do not know how to park. As we were leaving, people were parking from fence line to fence line blocking in a lot of vehicles and blocking in the exit route.
