I stayed at the Post Hotel near the Blackbird Island- waterfront park. The hotel stay was amazing. Complimentary breakfast and lunch, (I highly recommend the Bavarian Platter for lunch) and an all inclusive spa treatment. They have all sorts of steam rooms, a napping room, heated salt water pool, jacuzzi and massages. Plus, covered underground parking, (since parking is limited due to COVID).
Leavenworth is always amazing to visit no matter the time of year. This is my sixth time coming up here and I always have a great time. I stopped by the cheese shop and ate dinner out on the town- the Bavarian House was great and the Soup Cellar had excellent service.
I stopped into my favorite store, Der Outdoorsmen and purchases a new hat which I will now use on my hikes. My Northface hat was seen better days.
I took a little stroll out to Blackbird Island and stood down by the water for a while watching the Steller Jays and staring at Wedge Mountain in the distant. I wished for clearer days but...it is what it is.
Took a leisurely stroll through Leavenworth and ended up doing this trail Sunday afternoon. The whole park is covered in a beautiful layer of snow! Snowshoers and cross country skiers enjoyed the powder off trail. My husband and I did fine with winter boots but my mother needed microspikes since her tread wasn't great. Cute little walk in the woods to add if you're spending the day in Leavenworth!

After the nice snowfall earlier this week, I took my two college age kids to Leavenworth to get us all in the Christmas spirit. The town is wonderfully decorated and the main Front Street filled with shops and restaurants aplenty. We stayed downtown so were able to walk over to the Waterfront Park and quickly made our way over the first bridge to Blackbird Island. The snow was probably 6-8 inches in most spots so definitely covered the ground in all areas.
The hike on Blackbird is very short - maybe 800 yards at most to get to the next bridge and over to Enchantment. There were families enjoying the snow all around. The views of the Central Cascades are stunning here. The trail stays close to the Wenatchee River which also makes for picturesque viewing. We didn't see any wildlife to speak of - the ponds in the middle of the island seemed barren and abandoned for the winter. As you make your way around to the playground the trail disappears for a bit but steer away from the vacation homes and you will easily find your way back to the loop.
The hike also gives you a chance to see a broad expanse of Leavenworth from below - some of the new resort hotels are immense, glamorous. Still, the eye always comes back to the mountains jettisoning up into the air. The snow adds some magic to the hike.
