Sorry no trails here just water. As a Kayaker I spend more time on the water these days then the trails. Baker Lake this time of year is a great place to practice your skimming skills. The Lake is about 35 to 40 feet lower then the normal summer levels. The small island just north of Horseshoe cove is totally out of the water (about 8' lower then a few weeks ago). This leaves a great opportunity to view the muddy plane of the old stumps long ago cut for the damn. The layers of volcanic mud flows and stone jetsam are clear to see, along with the patterns where they covered and filled in the topography and the erosion over the years making the valley and the old Baker Lake. The best put in at this time of year is the small access (gravel boat ramp) at the north end of the mud damn at Horseshoe. Soon the water level will rise and cover up a area that is almost never seen. Happy Trails RJG
