Trail was intermediate with steep stretches, some fallen trees to climb over and incredibly muddy. The mud was unavoidable & our feet were wet by the end. Not a great trail for a small child unless in a carrier.
Beautiful foliage to see throughout the hike. Some natural wonders pointed out along the trail with signs.
Walking along the waterfront was nice. Others were clamming. Open oysters shells scattered the waterfront.

Trail was very open, only one other group walking on it.
The fall foliage was just starting, and there were two newts spotted moving across the trail so watch your step. One was a dull red, but the other had bright red feet and underbelly. Very nice change of pace.
Multiple mushrooms were spotted along the trail. C. olivieri, M. aurantiomarginata, etc.
On the beach side a crane and seal were spotted in addition to the seagulls, ducks, etc.
The public bathrooms were all open.
This trail and Tolmie in general have notoriously muddy conditions.... someone /group has recently attempted to alleviate this with some nice, fresh slices of tree trunks. The fresh pieces haven't had to work in the rain yet, but we will see in a month or so if they can do their job. This is a pleasant trail through the woods and we always like to end it with a walk out to the water on the far trail where a rough swing awaits.
