This hike made a nice break during a drive from Olympia to Seattle. The Four Cedars Trail makes a nice loop around Tolmie State Park. I saw a few other hikers on the trail, but for the most part, I had it to myself. Afterwards, I visited the beach, where several families were enjoying a sunny evening.

The trail head for Four Cedars that is closer to Sandy Beach trail starts off steeply. Nonetheless, this is a real "in the woods" trail that feels far away, although close. Be careful of tree roots along the trail. They can be tricky. Nice hike and plenty of shade from the sun!

Beware of: trail conditions

Very nice fairly easy hike, initial incline and a couple of other minor inclines had me breathing hard. Didn't run into anyone else on the trail although footprints indicated it was recently used by human and canine. The trail was pretty muddy in some spots, to the point that side trails have been created in the brush to navigate around it.

A nice short hike through the woods. This hike is approximately 3 miles, though walking on the beach we did about 4 miles total. Generally a very clear trail with a few sections that were very muddy, wear boots this time of year here. There are several raised wooden boardwalks that are extremely slippery. On the trail there are several placards showing things of interest.
